"Is she wearing a necklace? Isn't that a big parenting no no?" Uhm, yes. And well, maybe. But it's actually a teething necklace. An amber teething necklace to be exact. That's right, Miss (hippy) Baby has a new piece of baby bling! The Mommy figured she might as well make a blog post about this one, otherwise a barrage of emails would likely follow this uber cute picture. Baltic amber is an age old European remedy for the pain and discomfort associated with teething, among other ailments. Since amber is actually a resin, rather than a rock, it releases oils into the skin, particularly when warm. These oils have shown to have an analgesic effect as they are absorbed, hence the use with teething babes. Now some of you may find this quite hippy dippy here in the good ole U.S. of A. but teething necklaces are quite the norm in many places in the world, particularly in Europe where they are sold in drugstores right along with the teething tablets and baby pain relievers. So there you have it, baby bling with a purpose. Not too shabby. And quite cute to boot.
Oh and fyi, the clasp and thread are made to break easily if need be and each piece of amber is individually knotted so if the necklace were to break, there would be no choking risk. There, feel better now? Good! ;-)
So cute and very attractive as well! Whatever works is worth whatever it takes. I'm with you Blair! Glad you explained though:)
